Dart Zone has been hinting the last few days about a new line coming out this July.
Dart Zone Pro. With the hashtag #only1pro and some mysterious angles, they’ve got the attention of the community. The most recent video and more like it are posted at – http://bit.ly/dartzonepro – you have to provide an email for updates but then you will get clued in on the latest info on the Dart Zone Pro line.
Priced again at just under the cost of other brands, Dart Zone sent over a press release of their new offerings coming to 2018. Under Walmart’s “Adventure Force” brand, the “Tactical Strike” line is where to find these new blasters. I’m not sure what effect this will have on future releases, whether these will be for Walmart only (although in the case of the Powerball, Tactical Strike will have its own paint scheme) but for now I don’t have any info that shows these will be anywhere else.
Queued up is the Accelerator blaster, what looks to be a flywheel, 6D battery monstrosity and the Titanium, another pump-action blaster. A little reminiscent of the original Powerball with a different handle. The new aesthetics look pretty cool though, for sure. What’s new are ammo reloads (Dart Zone is making their own Rival-style ammo) and a mask along with the blasters. As I am all about the details, the blasters and the masks look to have interchangeable color plates for team indicators. Blue, Red, Green for starters (compared to the All-or-nothing color schemes for Blue, Red, and Phantom on the Nerf side of things.) And ultimately the price is definitely nothing to sneeze at considering the current market for 14+ foam projectiles. As a believer in stock play (not that it’s the only way, but I do appreciate my experience straight out of the box) this is a pretty strong toy. And yes, comparable to Nerf performance the Powerball is a smaller profile blaster, and compatible with Nerf Rival magazines. The only real shortcoming is no slam-fire but maybe one day.
I may have samples after the holidays, we’ll have to see! The official release date is January 15 so don’t be surprised if these start popping up around then.

To walk that floor with all the brands, bigwigs, and toys, there’s almost nothing else like it. FAIR WARNING – I have a LOT to say in this post, so there’s a lot of reading (and some pics!) so more after the break –
This Fall will be a very interesting year for Nerf. The showroom had new entries for Nerf N-Strike Elite, Mega, Zombie Strike, and Rebelle. Information had been released leading up to the show (Nerf Zombie Strike Doublestrike, Nerf Cam ECS-12,Nerf Rebelle Agent Bow – Secrets & Spies, the Nerf Zombie Strke Slingfire, Nerf Demolisher 2 in 1, and Nerf Mega Thunderbow) and while all the speculation, wild chatter, and yea/nay can be fun, I always put the most weight when I have the blaster right in front of me. I already posted some firing videos on the F2A Facebook and Instagram feeds, but rest assured I have some high quality video too and that will go up on youtube shortly. As I stay at Toy Fair the whole time (it’s a lot of fun, seriously. I wouldn’t give it up for the world) there’s a lot to go through.
“Zombie Strike” and “Secrets and Spies” are Nerf’s attempts at telling a narrative, having a backstory to their blasters. These are also attempts to cash in on current pop culture (obviously) trends, but who can blame them? With certain TV shows being so popular and other game types, it was inevitable that Nerf would finally pick up on it and jump in.
Interesting note about the Rebelle for 2014 – compared to the naming schemes for last year, “Pink Crush, “Heartbreaker Bow”, and so on (I think the “Guardian” may have been the main exception) something changed. “Rapid Red”, “Agent Bow” indicate this, although “Diamondista” seems to carry over from last year. “Spylight” could just as easily have fit into the N-Strike line, though maybe as “SpylightFireUltraHyperShot REV-6.”
Word has it research showed girls imagined themselves as spies with last year’s blasters, hence the innovation towards decoders and things. Very retro tech, reminiscent of old sticker collection books I had back in the 80s.(I remember a Super Mario Bros. and Voltron one, specifically. They were awesome.)
If I can highlight some things about the Agent bow…

It has an actual “nock” to hook onto the string, much detail, such archery. Wow.
It just looks great. Sleek and imposing even, and the bow arm mounted quiver is a really nice addition. (check the gallery).
I did ask to be shot with the Agent Arrows (under protest from my tour guide), but I had to be able to tell you what it’s like to be hit with them. Personally, I didn’t find it any worse than getting shot with a Mega Dart from a Centurion at point blank (ask BasicNerf). The heads are just as soft as Mega Dart whistler heads, the plastic shaft of the arrow is a non-issue (at least for me).
The Sweet Revenge was my favorite from last year, the Agent Bow might be my frontrunner out of Rebelle 2014.
Nerf N-Strike Elite though, is Nerf’s Flagship (at least in my estimation) line and the heavy hitters out of the gate are the Nerf Cam ECS-12 and the Nerf N-Strike Elite Demolisher 2 in 1.
The Nerf Cam ECS-12 is probably the most cost-prohibitive of the bunch. The MSRP is at $79.99, requires 8 AA batteries (flywheels + camera power), includes a 4 GB memory card, and is supposed to hit around 90-95′. A lot of Nerf players may already own GoPro cameras or have other arrangements by this point, so is that range bump enough to pour this much money into just one blaster? Especially given the camera is a 0.3 megapixels?
Nerf provided this video of the Cam(era), and it was honestly better than I expected.
But is it enough? We are still months from seeing a final form of this (in fact, all these blasters) so the jury is still out until the Fall release.
As for the Demolisher, the undermount alone is enough for me. Regrettably, it isn’t removable but it’s a step in that direction. It’s just odd that Nerf didn’t do thissoonerconsidering an undermounted removable missile has been available for some time now from another brand. While some folks also hate it is a triggerless system on the Demolisher’s mega missile launcher, I got a decent shot out of it, and the word says it will hit 50′ about. The Demolisher itself will hit approx. 90′.
So, Rebelle gets a makeover and a sweet bow, Elite gets a 90′ increase, that leaves Mega and Zombie Strike.
The Thunderbow is HUGE. About the size of my torso. And it will hit 100′. It primes like the Heartbreaker, actually. You pull back on the string, wait for the indicator to tell you you’ve pulled back enough (the arms pull back as well) and release, firing the Mega dart. You can do this up to 5 times before you are empty. Approximately 100′ out of it. My only complaint at this stage is somebody trying to pull a Legolas may suffer wear and tear on their fingers, as right now there is nothing covering the string where your fingers go.As someone who’s fired a lot of Zing arrows, I hope something gets put there before Fall, as the pull is pretty robust.

ICYMI, 3rd party tech made a huge splash at Toy Fair for Nerf this year – Tek Strike is a 3rd party game/setup that promises hit tracking, and utilizes bluetooth connectivity and requires players to be more strategic as you need specialized Nerf darts to play. See my initial writeup HERE Without giving too much away, these folks at Eyespy have a wonderful idea right now, and plenty more wonderful ideas to follow up. I’ll be watching them closely, as I’m genuinely excited about seeing this product and on more than one occasion listening to their pitch I was left speechless. I do have a video that I need to edit as well, so expect that soon.

According to the rep I spoke with at Toy Fair, a few of these items (including the hands-free walkie talkies) were pretty new, so the info was lacking. I’ll update this post as necessary! All the reveals had been done by this Toy Fair, so the Cam was probably the secret blaster at UK Toy Fair. No super secret sizzle video either like when the Hailfire was revealed. No new Nerf Dart Tag and now new Nerf N-Force (unless you want to count the Strikeblade, but that’s under the Zombie Strike brand.) While not outright saying the lines were defunct, there just aren’t any plans right now for either line, and that is indicated by the lack of new product for those lines as of New York Toy Fair.
So, first saw Atamaii‘s video pop up on Urban Taggers and here we are, ZOMBIESTRIKE. FROM NERF. At least through 2014. Unsurprisingly, reminiscent of the triple shot. Obviously, the “shell” isn’t in.
Hammershot, I imagine it would fit in the SWEET REVENGE holster as well, but only one way to know for sure.

Unfortunately, it looks like everything is under glass. A few more Target exclusives it looks like beyond the Hammer Shot and Sledge Fire, and I’m pretty sure I saw “Jan ’14” as a release date for some of those things above. There’s a very good chance that this stuff will be out even before the New York Toy Fair, so cross your fingers that a good amount of this will be ready in time for the holidays even!
TL; DR –
SledgeFire – I’m wary about how the shells are going to work and play, but I’ll be able to judge better once I actually have it. I just hope the shells will also be sold in a mission kit.
HammerShot – Now, please.
Crossfire Crossbow – See above.
Nerf Machete – See above and above.
Z bombs – So, instead of socks…? But I like the idea of a foam brick to toss around.
Sidestrike/FuseFire/Ricochet/Targeting Set – I’m a little eh, but will reserve excitement for seeing them firsthand.
ZombieStrike Blade – It’s…. a Vantage. While I do like seeing N-Force ideas are not entirely out the window just yet (they did say it would be supported at last year’s party, so nice to see them come through in a way.)

Overall, I’m really looking forward to the line and can’t wait to try them out. Between the Hammer Shot and the SledgeFire, that’s a good amount of innovation from the start. If the Crossbow is comfy and the Machete robust, I will be a happy camper.

Well, it is now the Day After the annual release/Media Big Bash for Nerf. Starting in 2009 with the release of the Nerf Stampede, myself and a number of other U.S. bloggers are lucky enough to be invited to this event.
PIC HEAVY UPDATE AFTER THE BREAK:
Members of the Hasbro/Nerf design team and marketing chain of command are on hand for us to discuss/inquire about the products on display as well as some elements of the design process. It is s usually pretty eye opening affair, and this year was pretty fantastic as well.
The focus this year was a “Bash at the Beach” themed event where some major releases such as the Nerf N- Strike Elite Mega Centurion, Nerf N- Strike Elite Rapidstrike, Nerf Vortex Revonix 360, the Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow, Nerf Rebelle Guardian Crossbow, and Nerf Cybershot Hoop were alll on hand to play and get a first-hand feel for them. Also a prime moment to give some feedback before the blasters go into full production if necessary.

Super Soakers and the Nerf Firevision Disc Flyer

The crown jewel of all the blasters for me over the evening was the Nerf Rapidstrike. It definitely felt lighter and overall more maneuverable than the Nerf Stampede. It fired faster and found it very easy to either do 3 round bursts or rock and roll at full auto. Dual wielding did not feel cumbersome either, so I am definitely looking forward to getting these on the field. It had the clear 18 round magazines and an adjustable stock. There’s also a flip-up iron sight, multiple tac rails, and a good amount of sling points.
The Nerf Rapidstrike – yes, it’s awesome. Fall 2013, $39.99 THE ORANGE MAGS WERE ONLY THERE FOR DEMO PURPOSES. THE RELEASE OF THE RAPIDSTRIKE WILL HAVE FULLY CLEAR MAGAZINES.
One interesting bit: there was some kind of thin rubber piece leading into the barrel and flywheels. I do not believe I have seen this before, so I am intrigued what it purpose it serves. Guide? Stabilizer? I have to check my Stampede to be sure.
Nerf Vortex’s Revonix 360 was on-hand, and while I have to wait to see the full range (the target walls were maybe up to 40′ away) the blaster is just crying for a stock on it. The on-the-fly reload is pretty awesome and smooth. What you give up for 10 shots (the Vortex Pyragon drum has 40) you gain in mobility by not having to carry extra magazines with you. The slam fire was a bit herky-jerky but there are still some tweaks to make between now and this Fall. Still though, I loved the Pyragon so I’m wondering how the full production model of this will be (and I feel it will be FANTASTIC.)
I forget who photobombed me. Nerf Vortex Revonix 360 Fall 2013, $39.99
The Nerf Rebelle blasters had the Guardian Crossbow and Heartbreaker bow next. Functionally, they didn’t feel much different from New York Toy Fair, but the pink was a much deeper hue on these. I will admit, the Guardian feels pretty comfortable, and my niece should get a kick out of them when they’re out. Some interesting notes on the Rebelle:
– A LOT of research went into the development. More than some people on the team had ever seen before.
– There’s a woman who worked on the blaster designs as well, so I wouldn’t say that it’s just men thinking what girls want.
– Rebelle is a long-term investment, this is no trial, it’s in for a penny, in for a pound with this line.
– One of the bits of commentary from tests groups was, they wanted pink, but only as an accent color or trim, not the majority of the blaster.
– The Sneak Attackers were a favorite of the initial test groups, due to compactness and relative power.
– Their test groups (girls) found a better experience at trying to develop skill in using the bow (form, pulling the string back, aiming, etc.) more than the outright shooting targets aspect, which might be why the Heartbreaker Bow is the big item in this line.
– Sadly, the Sweet Revenge (pistol) could not be demonstrated. It was zip-tied down and still in box. The focus was on the Guardian and Heartbreaker (the big ticket end of the release)
– Should start popping up around the 1st week of September, hopefully earlier.
In case you don’t like the pink of the Heartbreaker, have a different version!

The most info I did get was about the incoming app(s): There will be TWO separate ones, one for Nerf Rebelle and the other for the Nerf N-Strike Elite blasters. I’ll have to make a follow up inquiry to see if there’s any interaction between the two apps. Functionally, they will be similar.

They recognized all the duct tape magic going on out there mounting cameras, so they finally decided to provide a product (and no, the EPPS was not there. Basic Nerf brought one, but that’s the only one there.) Also, Droid fans… don’t worry. They’re working on it but just want to get it right.
Word has it the N-Force and Nerf Dart Tag lines are currently not the focus of the team, so nothing new to report on that front right now (thanks, AFON)
We couldn’t really get a lot of answers about stuff NOT on the show floor (though AFON got some info on the Elite Spectre, go check!) and that makes sense to focus on the here and now. If you’re in the woods, you’re worried about the bear 2′ away, not the bear that’s on the next mountain. So, let’s embrace the 2013 bear for what it is, and I’ll be back to revisit these blasters once they hit shelves.
And let’s not forget about Click Click BAMF who has now made 2 shows, and Shining Foam in his rookie year (along with Basic Nerf) at this event. Nice putting faces to the pages, always. Class acts from these guys this year, and hopefully get to see them again at the next event!

Update from Tek Recon after the break – I’ll put my 2 cents in a little later when I have a bit more time. But… wow. The movie start pledges got picked up, and there will be some new products possibly by 2014!

This spot has many of of the key shots that will be used in the final commercial that we intend to air later this year.
We think you are going to love the sizzle reel as it really helps demonstrate the product performance and convey how we envision team play and collaboration could work. You should note the following features in the spot:
Magazine swap out. Check out the flip and clip action on the Havok. We had much feedback from the community that you want more ammo and you want it fast. We are happy to to offer you up this, in a slick system that has quick access. Per the video, simply un-clip, flip and lock in the opposite end of magazine and you are good to go with another 36 rounds. Based on additional feedback we are planning on developing more ways to get ammo fast, in future developments of the project. Communication via the app. One of the coolest features in the app is the walkie talkies. Your team is all linked via a comm system and when you press the screen icon, you are instantly connected and sharing intel. HINT – When used in game play, you will need to be careful as there are some power ups that the opposing team can acquire and when deployed “hack” into the comm system to listen in on your teams plans.
Distance of the ammo. In the video you will see a point where there is a 2 way battle over a concrete barracade. This should give you an idea of the distance that the blaster can achieve. In a recent blog post; one of our fans described Tek Recon as “friendly airsoft for the masses”. We are confident you will be very happy with the performance but also knowing that it is safe to use and play with. Bank Shots. Another key advantage of the NRG rounds vs other projectiles is that they are dynamic and as a result you can “ricochet” the ammo to strike your target. Recoil. For those of you who have not had a clear look at what the recoil looks like there is some nice close ups of the product in action. We have just got to say it feels awesome and you cannot help but have a smile on your face every round you squeeze out!
Dynamic Targets. Yes we already had a video on this but thought we would give you a couple angles to look at it from. There is a “big” pay-off when you hit the target that we are pretty sure you will think is cool. These are included in our battle packs, squad leader and envoy pledges. Girls! We love the fact that we have both genders featured in the forthcoming spot. Yes this is a shout out to all the ladies who hate the stereo type that girls are not interested in blaster play. We know there are a bunch fo you who believe they can outwit and outplay their male counter parts and do not need a special pink or purple blaster to do it. [Unless you really like pink….in which case you can make a custom metallic pink blaster as part of our “Custom Havok” pledge:)]
We aspire to create a product we are proud of and deliver “wow” with Tek Recon and the play experience it will offer. We hope by now that we have demonstrated that we in fact are breathing life into this project and doing so by taking feedback from you, our fans, to shape what we finally produce.
We have had a lot of questions about the app and different operating systems etc that can be supported. What is important to note is that the blaster on it’s own is an incredible product; it has a unique design with features that are truly stand out and will provide the best performance on the market. That said we have taken Tek Recon from “good to great” by creating a “digital layer” that enhances the play experience. The Tek Recon app on an IOS or Android smart device will give you a first of its kind FPS video game experience in live action play!

These are some great packages, for sure! And they helped get Tek Recon over the 50% funding mark with a good amount of time left. It’s almost a guarantee we’re going to see a whole lot more news and features before the kickstarter is over.
As for the video, you kind of get a feel for the action pace they expect with Tek Recon, and the one feature not ready at Toy Fair was the recoil. But it’s the little touches that matter like the flip clip, the recoil, and the semi auto. Either way, this is exciting! Can’t wait to see everything.
