There it is! The Star Lord Quad Blaster in all its glory. Last seen at New York Toy Fair, I managed to order one off Target.com.

The blaster has 2 triggers -> one opens the blaster up exposing the extra barrels, and the other fires darts. There are 2 slides behind each barrel that pull back and return to position, priming the blaster. Depending on which barrels have darts in them, those darts will fire. If all 4 barrels are loaded, the inner barrels fire first, then the outer. If you load darts any other way whichever barrels are loaded will fire (smart ARs).

Pretty basic, front-loading and a pullback slide with a sweet gimmick. It’s almost the perfect formula for a licensed product. And as far as licensed products go, I’m more used to them going 10′-15′, not 25′-30′. And that’s what you’re going to get out of this blaster. So while not on par with many Elite/other brands, it doesn’t have to. The push here isn’t someone looking for performance (mostly) but a comic fan who is looking to tag their nearest Ronan The Accuser-looking friend for fun. Costumers may get a kick out of this and folks who check out the movie that will become new fans of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Is it worth the $20? I enjoy the gimmick of the blaster, regardless of the ranges. I like my Nerf games stock and up close anyway, so 20′-30′, 50′, whatever that’s not what I got it for. I got it cause it looks cool and people will understand why I yell “OOGA CHAKA OOGA CHAKA” as my new battlecry 🙂 I will admit, I thought the ranges were a little longer at Toy Fair, but I don’t really care. It’s easier to holster when it’s closed up, but I’d probably use it by itself and not as a sidearm because that’s just how I do things.

Excelsior!

Pssst…. this was on the back. Looks like there is another blaster coming out! Star Lord doesn’t get to have all the fun 🙂

Nerf Vortex Pyragon… Battle-tested!

Just wanted stop in… Didn’t get any photos/video from today’s game w/TTAGS (wanted to focus on playing for the first time in awhile), but my Nerf Vortex Pyragon and the 40 round drum got some work today 🙂

The slam fire action is pretty smooth and flawless (as demonstrated in some test fire videos) but the accuracy and general feel of the blaster is aces in my book (to be fair, we were playing Freeze Tag and on a playground with a jungle gym; about 30-50′ apart at times.)  I was moving under/around well with it, and taking out entire teams under a cloud of discs.  No misfires, no jams, and replacing mags when empty was easy and fast.  Can’t ask for much more in my book.

If only I had a room full of UV lights and a slew of white vortex discs… Disc Wars a la Tron coming right up!

Nerf N-Strike Elite: Centralized

Collected a number of the videos posted about the Nerf N-Strike Elite press kits and put them all in one playlist.  We all see things a little differently, so maybe there’s something here for everyone!

So far: Rogue1283, BasicNerf, and ClickClickBAMF all have videos up that I’ve found:

Curious about other parts of the Nerf N-Strike Elite line like the new bandolier, Tactical Vest, and even the Nerf Vortex Pyragon will price out:  Shining Foam went and got the whole listing straight off Nerf’s website.  Go have a look!

At first glance, the Hailfire and Pyragon are going for $39.99, the Rampage is at $29.99 (different from the $34.99 listed in the press kit), and Nerf N-Strike Retaliator at $24.99.  Good lookin’ out!

Fresh from the inbox!

MOAR NEWS – NDTL – (Nerf Dart Tag League)

So there is this:

Yup. Hasbro’s gone and started a league of competitive nerf events, the Nerf Dart Tag League. It kicks off with the Mt. Dew Action Sport Tour in Chicago, IL the weekend of June 26th and 27th. That’s right, the Nike BMX 6.0 event.

There’ll be a winning team from the cities on the tour, culminating in a Championship Finale in Florida. The games will be decided using dart tag and capture the flag rules, meaning competitors wear the vests and will have scores determined by where they hit the vests on opposing players in addition to flag captures. The link contains the full rules, but it does sound like something. There’s even prize money!

Anyway, so what do I think about this? I actually really enjoy the idea. I even hope to get a glimpse of everything at Festival Village next week. I just hope my expectations of seeing the new CTF Dart Tag set are founded. I think taking stock ammo and darts is a good thing, and trying to garner attention to nerf fights with something like a league is brilliant. People will form teams, they will gather, and they will see. Not quite what the NIC is used to, but to even get the idea out there is plenty reason. I don’t care what anyone says about goobers or other elitist thinking. We run around with children’s toys, some more modified than others. Bring people in, let them figure out what more they can do. And that’s what introductory things like this mean. I look forward to checking it out and seeing what’s what, and getting out there. I invite other nerfers in/around Chicago to check it out. Hasbro needs to know that we’re in support, even if we do make such a small population of the market. Nerfers… come out to play-ayyyy…. NERFERS…. COME-OUT-TO-PLAY-AYYYYYYY.
